These came out of the first meeting. The list will grow and change. Some of it isn't the board's to fix — that's marked.

A label is not a promise. Most of this list is at the stage of having been said out loud in a public meeting.

  • Raised

    Members brought it up; nothing scheduled yet.

  • Not ours to fix

    Belongs to another department or body; the board can carry it there.

  • Open question

    The board doesn't yet know whether this is within its purview.

  • Public restrooms

    On an agenda

    Identified at the first meeting as the main near-term priority. The September meeting is set to take it up after the board reaches out to City Public Works. Members also flagged that where restrooms go matters as much as whether they go in — Creek Street already has pinch points.

  • Trees in danger of falling

    Raised

    Members identified hazard trees as a safety risk to Creek Street buildings.

  • The entrance to Creek Street

    Raised

    Members described the visitor entrance and the approach to it as dangerous where pedestrians and vehicle traffic combine.

  • Congestion on the boardwalk

    Raised

    Pedestrian congestion during the tourism season, with storeowners asking visitors to wait outside at capacity. Members noted the boardwalk's current width may be doing useful work regulating flow, and that widening sections of it could increase congestion rather than relieve it.

  • A neighborhood plan for the Historic District

    Members said the district needs one. The Transit director made the same point in public comment and said his department will work with the Planning Department and Planning Commission toward an updated area plan. Multiple bodies now converging on the same need.

  • Flooding at high tide and in heavy rain

    Named among the district's standing problems when members went through what the street contends with.

  • Spreading visitors around the community

    Not ours to fix

    Members discussed dispersal as part of the larger picture. Wider than design review, and wider than this board — but it shapes every other item on this list.

  • Bears on the creek

    Open question

    Members asked whether bear control could fall within the board's purview. That question hasn't been answered. In the meantime it's one of the things people bring to the workshop.

Something missing from this list?

The list came out of one meeting of five people, so it's certainly incomplete. The end of every meeting is an open workshop, and that's the easiest place to put something on it. Email works too.
